Initial investigations from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have so far revealed that there were no other vehicles seen in the area prior to Wednesday night’s fatal motorcycle accident in West End, Tortola.
The RVIPF made the disclosure in a media statement on Thursday December 9, as they revealed the name of the deceased to be 20-year-old West End resident Ijahni Scatliffe.
Following the fatal incident, reports circulating indicated that the accident was caused by another vehicle which had fled the scene.
However, the police’s contrasting factual finding stem from an assessment of video footage obtained in the area.
“As officers of the Road Policing Unit ask for witnesses into last night’s accident in the West End area that claimed the life of a 20-year-old male, video footage extracted thus far does not show another vehicle in the area at the time of his collision,” the RVIPF stated.
They added, “Acting Superintendent of Operations Dariel Robinson says investigations continue at this time but video footage from the scene shows no other vehicles were near or by the accident scene prior to the collision which took place around 9pm.”
The police is asking witnesses of the collision to contact the Road Policing Unit directly at 468-5364 or Acting Sergeant Kishon Leslie directly at 368-9811, as investigations are ongoing in the matter.
