Premier Andrew Fahie has made it clear that the pending report from the Commission of Inquiry’s (COI) investigations will have no bearing on his government’s decision to call the next General Elections in the British Virgin Islands.
Premier Fahie put those suspicions to rest during last Friday’s press conference while addressing the topic of elections in the BVI.
He said his government has nothing to run from and therefore will not be making any attempts to call an election in the territory prior to the release of the pending COI report.
The leader of government business said elections will be called when time is right, which according to him is based on the atmosphere in the territory.
“We’re not going to be calling an election based on a report. Before the report comes out there will be no election, when the report comes out, we will be able to analyze the report, we will be able to look at the recommendations and it may not come out like people thinking. It may come out in a different way, we have to wait and see,” he stated.
He added, “Why should I sit down worrying about something and that is not downplaying the significance of it, and worrying about something when you know that you haven’t done something wrong. Could you do things differently? Who wouldn’t be able to improve their life or any government improve them life accordingly, but, I know that the monies have hit the target and our government has done its best to help the people in these difficult times.”
The premier also said that his government is open to any recommendations that may stem from the COI report, once they will assist with the development of the territory.
