Residents are being urged to exercise extreme caution as the territory continues to experience inclement weather.
The warning comes from the Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Kye Rymer, who made the statement in a media release published today Saturday February 5.
He said, “I would like to advise the public to be cautious and very careful traversing the roads due to the inclement weather. The earth is saturated, and that may mean falling rocks, flooding, and slippery roads. Motorists should exercise extreme caution as some areas may not be easy to traverse.”
“The Public Works Department has been activated as a precaution to clear roadways. Safety is the priority, so please, STOP, LOOK and LISTEN, for Safe Driving Saves Lives,” he added.
The minister also encouraged residents to report any sightings of falling boulders that may have blocked roadways.
High Surf Advisory remains in effect
In the meantime, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in a weather update published just after 5pm this afternoon, indicated that a high surf advisory remains in effect over the territory.
“A trough in the vicinity will maintain some instability across the area. Meanwhile a surface high pressure will generate a moderate wind flow across the area,” the DDM stated.
Tonight’s weather forecast predicts a 70 percent or higher chance of showers while tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy with 60 percent or moderate chance of showers.
