The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has joined forces with other multinational agencies to bring awareness of the fight to keep the internet safe for children within the territory.
Today February 8 is recognized as Safer Internet Day across the world and this year the theme is “Together for a better internet.”
Speaking on the initiative was Head of the Family and Juvenile Unit, Inspector Kendol Bobb who said that the police through the Safe Online Initiative End Violence Partnership, is working with and through partners like the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).
He said this partnership is aimed at making the internet safe for children through actively working to fill gaps in resources, evidence programmes and technological solutions.
“Since 2016, the End Violence Fund has mobilized $83 million, of which $48 million were invested in 60 projects focused on preventing and eliminating online child sexual exploitation and abuse with impact in over 70 countries,” he stated.
He added, “In April 2022, the Fund will announce new investments for over $20 million to continue supporting countries to strengthen systems, generate evidence and develop technological solutions.”
Inspector Bobb said this Safer Internet Day will be used to celebrate the progress made so far in making the internet safer for children. He said this will be achieved by raising awareness about the issues, sharing solutions and calling on all stakeholders to take action.
