JVD RESIDENTS ARE DONE WITH THE PROMISES – SAYS SITUATION WITH THE SCHOOL IS AT AN ALL TIME LOW

Residents and parents of Jost Van Dyke have expressed that they are beyond fed up with the present situation being faced by their primary school children.

284News started the journey by first taking a look at the present location of the Jost Van Dyke Primary school where we were able to walk around the perimeter of the school to see some of the many concerns that have been raised by residents over the years.

After passing the stagnant water from the pond to make our way onto the premises of the school, we immediately noticed the mold that existed on the exterior of the school building.

Mold on the soffit of the school

In an effort to provide the public with a greater insight on the extent of the mold situation at the school, we reached out to the principal of the school to gain permission to enter the classrooms to capture footage.

However, we were denied permission to enter the empty classrooms to take footage of the mold.

The response did not deter our news team from gathering the information needed to paint the true picture of the situation, as we began our journey on the streets of Great Harbour.

We spoke to several residents who simply put, said they have had enough.

This included Mr. Dexter Donovan, a father of six, who pulled to the side of the road while commuting, to speak his mind on the situation.

He said from as far back as he could remember the present structure that exists has been around for more than 5 decades.

Donovan believes it is time to have the children moved away from the school’s location as it a danger to the health of all persons near the structure.

We also had the pleasure of speaking to Ms Janice Graham, a part-time resident who has more than 3 decades of teaching in the United States Virgin Islands and the United States of America.

She made it clear that she was not bashing the government, but felt that measures to address the dire situation of the school have been reactive over the years.
