Virgin Islands model Shenique Erickson made her debut at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), walking the runway in designer Edwing D’Angelo’s Fall/Winter 2022 Presentation. She turned heads at the Cesar Galindo show and was the subject of attention for a number of photographers.
Shenique attended Coco Rocha’s Modeling Camp (CRMC) which helped to boost her self-confidence and her knowledge about the modeling industry.
The young model discovered the Top Model Coco Rocha’s Modeling Camp (CRMC) on social media and used the opportunity to improve her skills. According to Shenique, “during the CRMC, my self-confidence has grown exponentially. I left CRMC with a wealth of knowledge on the industry that I am looking forward to using”.
“After CRMC, I stayed in New York for fashion week, hoping to get scouted on the streets of New York. (Yes, I know it sounds nearly impossible but it happens more often than you think.) Terry Donovan, Founder and Producer of Summer Sizzle BVI, invited me and my sister Aaliyah Erickson, also a model to the Cesar Galindo’s Runway show and I was given the opportunity to debut for Edwing D’Angelo Fall/Winter 2022 Presentation.” Shenique Erickson said.
According to Donovan, Shenique’s modeling career began when she was selected as a model for the Summer Sizzle BVI in 2017. “One of the benefits of being selected to participate in the event is the training that BVI models (adults and kids) receive. Alva Page, an international model coach, has been instrumental in helping to develop the skills and talents of local BVI models like Shenique through the Summer Sizzle BVI event.
Donovan further stated, “Shenique has the potential for a modeling career and I will continue to guide her and give her best advice to help her achieve her goals. Summer Sizzle BVI offers a platform to give models exposure and to help develop them. Over the years, I have also asked designers to give our local models an opportunity to walk in the NYFW shows or feature them in their advertising campaigns. In addition, we are planning to hold a Model Bootcamp in BVI in May”.
Shenique said, “Modeling has always been a passion of mine. Whilst my focus has always been about finishing school to become a physical therapist, I’ve always enjoyed modeling. I am very grateful to Summer Sizzle BVI for selecting me as one of the models. I also did several photo shoots with local photographers and local brands.
“From training with Coco at CRMC to living out my dreams at NYFW was truly an amazing experience! I was able to connect with so many photographers, designers, and models. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity that was given to me and I am excited to see the doors that may open from this experience.” Shenique stated.
