6TH DISTRICT’S HON. MADURO-CAINES ONCE AGAIN ACTING AS EDUCATION MINISTER WHILE EDUCATION MINISTER IS AWAY ON OFFICAL TRAVEL

Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, representative for the 6th District is once again serving as Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture from February 27th to March 4th.

Minister Cains has acted in the position of Education Minister before while serving under the National Democratic Party Administration with then Education Minister Myron V Walwyn.

Hon. Maduro-Caines is serving as Education minister while Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley is attending the Thirty-Third Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Fourth CARICOM-SICA Summit in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. 

The Deputy Premier is attending the meeting on behalf of Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie, and will join in discussions on matters of great importance to the Caribbean Community including the impact of COVID-19 on the region, agriculture, regional food and nutrition security, climate change, among other areas. 

The Honourable Minister said, “I want to thank Premier Andrew A. Fahie and my honorable colleagues for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture. The voters of District 6 first elected me in November 2011 and for the past 11 years I have dedicated myself to the service of my people. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture is critical to the future of the Virgin Islands and I am committed to doing whatever is possible to assist in guiding the Virgin Islands to a bright future.”

Honourable Maduro-Caines’ appointment is in accordance with section 52 (2) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 where the Governor action in accordance with the advice of the Premier shall, by instrument under Public Seal appoint Ministers from among the elected members of the House of Assembly.
