In a recent email sent to some 731 staff members of the BVIHSA last evening February 28th at 9:41pm. The CEO of one of the largest organizations in the BVI, Mrs. Angeline John notified the staff of yet another salary deadline due to missed deadlines, a situation that has happened repeatedly within the organization.
The email read, “Despite our best efforts it was not possible to make payroll due today, February 28th, 2022 and we are hopeful that this can be done by tomorrow afternoon for most banks. As usual, Banco and First Bank will be a day later due to processing protocols for said banks.”
She continued, “Let me say that it is never our intention to be disrespectful to staff and we have always tried to communicate payroll delays in a timely manner. However, the decision was taken on this occasion to communicate verbally with staff and/or their managers and supervisors who called the HR and Finance offices for an explanation.”
CEO accuses BVIHSA staff of being unprofessional
The CEO further stated that, “the reason being we have noticed a trend where some staff behave unprofessionally and irresponsibly by taking corporate correspondence to the media in an effort to cast the Authority and the Government at large in a negative light.”
She closed by staying that the Authority “is very appreciative of the work that you do and it is never a good feeling when salaries cannot be paid on the due dates so that you could honor your commitments. We sincerely apologize for having allowed the potential behavior of a mischievous few to affect the very good rapport that we share with the majority of staff.”
On December 1st, 2021 the organization faced the same dilemma and as a result frustrations continue to grow among staff as they consider such actions disrespectful.
One staff member in response to the email by the CEO wrote, “This is not the first time this has happened end of the month salary was not paid. This is very disrespectful and unprofessional, BVIHSA needs to do better and have a little more respect for the staff. Some of us are living paycheck to paycheck and working two jobs just to make ends meet.”
More to come as the story develops.
