The British Virgin Islands (BVI) will be discussing the subject of the on-going Commission of Inquiry (COI) at the Thirty-Third Inter-Sessional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Belize.
Representing the BVI is the Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Culture, Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Honourable Natalio Wheatley.
Speaking to 284News in an exclusive interview late Monday February 28, Dr. Wheatley expressed that he was delighted to be representing the territory and to have the opportunity to strengthen ties with members of the CARICOM Community.
He said, “This is an important meeting for the BVI as we are establishing our relationships with the incoming Secretary General of CARICOM Dr. Carla Barnett, we also have a new Deputy Secretary General Dr. Armstrong Alexis and we hope to continue the strong relationship we established with CARICOM and its Secretariat, as they support us in our journey as an Associate Member of CARICOM and also as a dependent territory of the United Kingdom.”
Dr. Wheatley also disclosed that a number of important issues will be discussed during the two-day conference.
He said the BVI has an item on the agenda to be discussed. Namely the on-going Commission of Inquiry.
He also said that some of the other subject matters to be discussed include: Haiti and their security concerns, CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), CARICOM Agri-Food Systems Agency and Climate Change.
The meeting will be taking place in San Pedro, Belize from March 1-2, 2022, under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Belize, Honourable John Antonio Briceño.
