The man who is said to be responsible for the mass damaging of 26 vehicles in Road Town has been subsequently charged following mental evaluations at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
This was confirmed by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in a press statement, which revealed the name of the accused as Glenford Smith Jr.
It said, “Glenford Smith Jr., a native of Tortola residing in Carrot Bay was charged with the destruction of windows and windscreens of 19 vehicles in the parking lot of the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. Only 19 of the 26 vehicles seen with damage made police reports. He is to appear in court at the next available sitting.”
The RVIPF also reported a second charge, this time relating to indecent assault of a female victim.
Charged is 43-year-old David Corridon, a St. Vincent national who was charged with indecently assaulting a Long Bush female resident.
The police said, “She reported that a man entered her home and tried to force himself on her. Persons in the area responded to her cries for help. Corridon appeared before Magistrate’s Court and was placed on remand.”
The RVIPF is reminding residents that The law prohibits charges to be brought against any person confirmed to be mentally ill. However, they say if the offender is mentally sound and aware of the offence carried out, charges can be laid on that individual.
