The Government of the Virgin Islands has moved to further relax COVID-19 protocol in the territory, removing the previous 100-person crowd limit and reducing the quarantine period for unvaccinated travelers.
Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Carvin Malone broke the news during a press conference on Wednesday March 2.
He said that the decisions resulted from a Cabinet meeting held earlier in the day, which also included event organisers now having to write the Environmental Health Department for events with excess of 300 persons.
Unvaccinated travelers into the territory will now be required to quarantine for 5 days as opposed to 7 which was the previous requirement.
Minister Malone also said that the other COVID-19 protocols such as mask wearing, sanitizing and social distancing will continue to be in effect in the Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, Minister Malone also disclosed that since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the laboratory at the Dr. D Orlando Smith has processed and analyzed over 100,000 samples for the COVID-19 virus.
The minister was at the time updating the territory of the latest active positive case numbers in the BVI, which now stands at 23.
This new COVID-19 directive once gazetted will expire on March 31, 2022.
