TOP BARBADIAN CRIMINAL ATTORNEY LEADS THE DEFENSE OF ONE OF THE 3 ACCUSED IN THE 2018 MURDER OF DAWAY – DAY 5 OF TRIAL CONTINUES TODAY

The trial for the 2018 murder of Trumayne Daway which involves murder accused Vernon Bernard, Rafael Harrigan and Maybelline Rodriguez, is set to continue on day five of proceedings in the High Court this morning.

The jury was empaneled on Friday March 11 and the trial commenced on Monday March 14 before Justice Richard Floyd.

The trio of Bernard, 30, Harrigan, 31, and Rodriguez, 25, are each indicted on one count of murder.

Dominica native Bernard and local Harrigan also equally share a second charge for possession of a weapon with intent to commit an indictable offense.

According to the murder charge, the three are accused of acting together on February 28, 2018 at Brandywine Bay on Tortola and murdering Trumayne Daway.

In the weapon possession offense, both Bernard and Harrigan are accused of having in their possession between February 12, 2018 at Purcell Estate on Tortola, an AK-47 firearm with intent to commit murder.

Since the commencement of the trial on Monday, approximately 5 witnesses provided evidence and a fingerprint expert was among the professionals to deliver evidence on the stand.

The trial will resume on day five with a senior police officer providing further evidence on the case, where he will be cross examined by the three accused defense attorneys.

Representing Rodriquez – who is a native of the Dominican Republic – is attorney Valerie Gordon while Bernard is represented by attorney Richard Rowe.

Harrigan is the only accused with a three-attorney defense which is led by Barbadian Queen’s Counsel Michael Lashley and includes local attorneys Isis Potter and Michael Maduro.
