A male and a female are in police custody following Sunday night’s shooting incident which occurred in the parking lot of the popular Bobby’s Supermarket.
This was confirmed by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in a media release which said that at least three vehicles and the storefront window of the supermarket received damage during the incident.
“Police operation conducted this morning resulted in their apprehension. No charges have been laid thus far. Initial inquiries suggest that, in the incident around 7pm, the target were two individuals seated in one of the vehicles in the parking lot. However, no one was injured in that incident,” the RVIPF stated.
Commenting on the incident, Commissioner of Police Mark Collins expressed his concerns on the complete disregard of life and property that resulted from the incident.
He said, “Any number of innocent customers to this popular supermarket could have been struck and killed, or seriously injured in this reprehensible act. This could have easily been another life lost and another family in grief.”
“No dispute is worth the loss of a life. Never, ever let anyone in your presence justify carrying a firearm. There is no justification. No one wins in the end,” Commissioner Collins added.
The police continue to appeal to the public to report the whereabouts of any illegal firearms or any individual in possession of these weapons. Persons with information can contact the Special Investigation Team at 368-9155 or the RVIPF three-digit access number 311.
