Government’s aim is not about making revenue through fines, instead the aim is to ensure businesses are in compliance with the respective BVI laws.
This was the message shared by the Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew Fahie during a recent press conference which was held to address the recent crackdown of illegal charter boats in the BVI.
The message came in response to a question posed by local media after the Commissioner of Customs Mr. Wade Smith disclosed that between $500,000 and $600,000 in duties and fines were collected by the Customs Department since December 2021.
In responding to the question, the premier said that there are more benefits to be reaped through compliance than there is to reap with having to fine local businesses.
