After two days of work by the Water and Sewage Department over the weekend, the sewage leak that once existed at Pasea Estate has been rectified.
This was confirmed by the Minister for Transportation and Works Honourable Kye Rhymer who made the announcement via his social media page earlier today.
He thanked the workers from both the Water and Sewage and Public Works departments for addressing the matter swiftly.
“First, I must thank the public and motorists alike for their cooperation and patience during the course of works that occurred over the weekend,” he stated.
He added, “This weekend we replaced just over 800ft starting from the Purcell gap to join at the bridge, bringing the total to just over 1120ft. It is important that the public understands that the line terminates across from the Cultural Center, leaving another 1300ft to be replaced. This should be done in the not-too-distant future.”
Minister Rymer also gave context to the sewage leak at Pasea Estate, adding that it was just one of numerous leaks that occurred from the main pumping line between the Purcell entrance all the way to the Cultural Center.
He said these continuous leaks are all linked to the aged line which has reached its breaking point and revealed plans to address the matter utilizing a phased approach.
“The plan is to replace this line in phases. You may remember last year, we replaced what we believed to have been the worst part of the line. This was from the bridge across from the Tortola Sports Club and just before Treasure Isle Hotel and totaled around 320ft,” Minister Rymer explained.
