ANDREW MORRELL GRANTED POLICE BAIL AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER; IS THIS USUALLY THE CASE?

In an official statement the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution informed the public that Andrew Morrell has been charged in relation to the October 16th, 2021 boating accident that claimed the life of Frandie Martin Jr.

Morrell was arrested and charged on yesterday April 12th, 2022, and granted bail with “strict conditions”.

While manslaughter is a bailable offence and bail applications are usually made by the accused, granting police bail for such serious offences has not been the practice.

Morrell is scheduled to appear before the magistrate court on May 31st, 2022.

The charges laid against him are Manslaughter, Causing serious injury to a person while on board a vessel and Failing to render assistance after a collision.

In the statement the DDP’s office also said, “We are aware of the public interest in this matter, and remind the public that such investigations take time, and must be executed properly to ensure that there is due process for the victims as well as the accused.”

More to come as the story develops.
