HODGE EYEING A CLEAN SWEEP OF GOLD MEDALS – McMASTER ADDS TO THE CARIFTA GAMES MEDAL TALLY

Local track and field sensation Adaejah Hodge will be eyeing a third successive gold medal at the 49th CARIFTA Games in Kingston Jamaica this afternoon, when she competes in the finals of Under 17 Girls 200-meter race.

Hodge cruised to the finals after winning her semi-final heat on Sunday April 17, with the fastest qualifying time of 23.74 seconds.

Her closest competition came from Jamaica’s Sabrina Dorsett who ran a time of 24.16 seconds.

A win in this race which is scheduled for 5:05pm will give Hodge her third gold medal of the competition to complete a clean sweep.

Earlier that day, Hodge picked her second gold medal of the Games in the Under 17 Girls Long Jump event.

After fouling in her first two attempts, Hodge delivered on her final jump to leap a distance of 6.20 meters to take the gold.

Meanwhile, also medaling on the day for the BVI was Akeela McMaster who picked a silver medal in the Under 20 Girls Heptathlon event.

After competing in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters, McMaster finished with a total of 4246 points, edging third place Gianna Paul of Trinidad and Tobago who collected 4245 points.

That event was won by Jamaica’s Shania Myers who finished with a total of 5006 points.

The BVI now has a total of 5 medals at the CARIFTA Games, with 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

On Saturday April 16, Savianna Joseph picked up a gold in the Under 17 Girls Shot Put event, Hodge won her 100-meter event and Jah’kyla Morton collected a bronze in the Under 17 Girls High Jump event.
