VIRGIN ISLANDERS IN THE UK BEING URGED TO REQUEST COI REPORT UNDER FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

Virgin Islanders living in the United Kingdom are being asked to request the completed Commission of Inquiry (COI) report under the UK’s Freedom of Information Act.

The appeal comes from local talk show host Claude ‘Skelton’ Cline who made the suggestion during the recent airing of his radio programme ‘Honestly Speaking’.

Following the announcement by Governor His Excellency John Rankin that the COI report will not be made public until June, many residents took to social media to express their concerns with the decision.

Speaking on the topic, Cline said the timeline proposed by the governor should not be accepted by the people as he believes the report should have been made available to the public immediately after completion.

Cline also expressed his disappointment in what he termed to be “a graph” of the COI report which was presented by the governor.

He said the public was expecting way more than the little which was said in the governor’s address of the COI report.

The former government consultant also said that while the governor has a constitutional right to decide on his approach to the COI report, the path of which the governor has taken is an infringement of the rights of the BVI people.
