Another legislator under the sitting Virgin Islands Party administration has come forward to share sentiments as to the recent happenings involving Premier of the Virgin Islands Andrew A Fahie.
At-Large Representative and Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Hon. Sharie B de Castro in her first official statement since the events said, “Like many of you in this moment, I have experienced a level of confusion beyond anything I have ever felt before. Therefore, some may understand why I have taken a moment to process the revelation of the recent events involving Premier Fahie. Yet, some may be of the opinion that this should have come much sooner; a conviction I also share.
As a consequence of this egregious circumstance, I have experienced a range of mixed emotions including; disbelief, disappointment, anger and a feeling of deep betrayal. Yet, in light of this and even in the midst of great uncertainty, we do not have the luxury of prolonged bewilderment. This, especially considering that the fate of our beloved Virgin Islands hangs in the balance.”
Focus on the goal
She continued, “As such, I decided to focus instead on the need for us to act strategically and intentionally in preservation of the dignity and integrity of our people, our governance and our economy. I therefore categorically denounce anyone who threatens or undermines our way of life and the progress we have made as a people. We have demonstrated our ability to chart our own course. This was not without much struggles and collective determination, yet, we persevered and by this, accomplished much.”
Government has been meeting to determine next steps
In closing de Castro stated, “We have been meeting what feels like nonstop to determine the next steps. I express profound gratitude to the many of you who have demonstrated your support and shared encouraging words. I have taken some time to reflect on the diligent efforts and legacy of our fore-parents and from this I have drawn great inspiration and hope. With this, I am renewed in my resolve to move forward, committed to my oath and duty as an elected representative, to rise up in this moment, void of any selfish desire or political obligation, to diligently serve the people of these beautiful Virgin Islands.”
