Newly appointed Premier of the Virgin Islands Dr. the Honourable Natalio Whealtey says he is ready to lead the territory and his newly formed National Unity Government.
Dr. Wheatley was officially sworn in as Premier on Thursday by the Governor His Excellency John Rankin.
The move came after he successfully moved a no confidence motion in the House of Assembly just hours earlier, to remove Andrew Fahie from the position of premier.
Speaking for the first time in his new role, Dr. Wheatley said he hopes the day is remembered as the day his government began a new era of democratic governance in the BVI.
Premier Wheatley also thanked Governor Rankin for accepting his preposition and for moving quickly to have all members of the new government sworn in.
Dr. Wheatley who is also now the Minister of Finance said that his government’s top priority will be implementing the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report recommendations.
He said change will be hard but assured residents that the delivery of the public service and the growth of the economy will not be neglected.
Governor Rankin also joined Premier Dr. Wheatley in expressing his commitment to the territory.
