The Police Welfare Association (PWA) is urging the relevant authority to put the needed systems in place to have their members paid outstanding increments and allowances that in some cases have spanned two years.
Chairman of the PWA and Acting Inspector in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Mr. Sean McCall made the appeal via a media release on Tuesday, May 25.
He called for the outstanding monies to be paid to all members by the end of this month.
“The Executive of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) is calling on the relevant Competent Authority to implement the necessary systems and functions and pull out all the stops to ensure that their members are paid their long-overdue, outstanding increments and allowances,” he stated.
He added, “The PWA is calling on the relevant authority to ensure that all its members are paid in time for the May 31st, 2022, pay period.”
Non-payment issues existed for over 2 years
Chairman McCall also revealed that the nonpayment issue of increments and allowances is one that existed for more than two years for some of the Association’s members.
He said, “The Police Welfare Association and its members understand the technical nature of the process involved; however, the members have been extremely patient, diligent, and tolerant in their attempts to bring some resolve to these ailing and aging issues of non-payment.”
“These issues and discrepancies with payment, which in some cases span a period of over two years. These are matters of grave concern and rather troubling as it lends their contribution to the existing annoyance, frustration, and poor morale of its members who are no doubt disgruntled,” he further explained.
Despite the stance on the outstanding monies owed to members, Chairman McCall assured residents that the members of the association stand dedicated and committed to their role and functions to the safety and security of the communities in the Virgin Islands.
