The keys to the Joe’s Hill Manor Estate homes have officially been handed over to the Social Security Board (SSB).
The SSB confirmed the historic occasion, stating that the keys were received in a private ceremony which was held on the property on Wednesday June 15.
“The keys were ceremonially handed from James Todman Construction (represented by Mr. Roger Edmondson) to Project Manager, Mr. Dion Stoutt, to the newly appointed minister with responsibility to Social Security Hon. Marlon Penn, to Chairman of the SSB, Mr. Glenroy Forbes and finally to Director, Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe-Boynes,” the SSB stated.
The estate consists of 25 buildings and includes 52 residential units and one commercial space and marks the beginning of the Social Security Board’s “First-time Homeowners Program”.
Speaking on the finished project was Minister Penn who said: “I’m happy to see the project come into fruition. It’s really a beautiful sight to behold, [and a] very good use of space in terms of how the buildings have been designed and finished.”
Project Manager, Stoutt during his remarks on the project commended Mr. James Todman and his team for executing great work and completing the buildings in just 18 months.
He said, “It feels great, knowing that in a few months we’ll have a number of families who are able to get home ownership for the first time. It’s something that’s real special to all of us.”
Meanwhile, Director Mrs. Scatliffe-Boynes, confirmed that the public will hear more about the sale of the homes in the coming weeks.
She said it will commence with the review of applicants, followed by the selection of prospective homeowners, the mortgage process, and the actual sale of the units.
“Our first step will be to reconnect with the applicants. As we continue the process, the people can trust the Social Security Board to remain transparent throughout the stages,” she stated.
The buildings are strategically constructed on seven-acres of hillside with views of commercial Road Town and the south coast harbor.
