GOVT ON TRACK TO MEETING JUNE 30TH DEADLINE – ASSURES PREMIER

The Premier of the Virgin Islands has assured the public that his National Unity Government is on track with achieving its deliverables for the Commission of Inquiry Report recommendations that are due at the end of the month.

Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley gave the assurance at a recent press conference when asked by local media whether his government was on track with the deadlines.

Premier Wheatley listed the Register of Interest as one of the initiatives which are on track, adding that the House of Assembly is scheduled to meet on Thursday, June 30, to finalise the processes needed to make the interests of Members public.

Some of the other implementations due for June 30; include the establishment of a panel by the Cabinet to review the scholarship/educational grants programme, which must also submit a full report to the premier and governor; the Cabinet’s approval of joint responsibility between the relevant government agencies and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force for the security of all ports under the command of the police force; and the establishment of a revised Constitutional Review committee which must be proposed by Cabinet, with final membership to be jointly agreed by the governor and premier.
