Opposition Leader Honourable Julian Fraser is calling for the government to ease the burden of the rising cost of electricity bills being faced by residents.
Fraser made the appeal in the House of Assembly on Thursday, stating that parents should not be forced to choose between either paying their electricity bills or feeding their children.
He said residents are becoming increasingly concerned with the high electricity bills that are being distributed each month.
Fraser said that he will no longer be able to directly assist the respective individuals within his community who may need help paying their bills.
He said this is due to the recent shift of House of Assembly assistance grants to the Social Development Department, which is now solely responsible for the distribution of such grants.
Fraser also called on the various ministers and elected officials to come up with a solid plan on how in-need residents in the communities can be assisted.
