Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley is currently away from the Territory on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK).
While in the UK, Premier Wheatley will be engaged in a series of meetings with Chairman of the BVI All Party Parliamentary Group, Mr. James Sunderland MP; a discussion on future cooperation with Lord Mayor of Birmingham City Council, Ms. Maureen Cornish; a Financial Services briefing with Weber Shandwick; and engagement with the BVI Diaspora in London.
The Premier will also attend the Commonwealth Games in support of the Territory’s largest contingency to the Games.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is being held in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.
Meanwhile, Deputy Premier and Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer has been appointed to act as Premier and Minister of Finance from July 25 to 29 while Premier Wheatley is away from the Virgin Islands. The Premier returns to the Territory on July 29.
Honourable Rymer’s appointment is in accordance with Section 55 (1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states, “If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorise the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier.”
