More than 400 kilograms of cocaine were seized at sea off Cooper Island during a Saturday afternoon marine operation which resulted in the arrest of two men.
This was confirmed by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a statement today Sunday, August 14.
“While on routine patrol, officers of the RVIPF Marine Branch yesterday afternoon met a suspicious vessel on the north side of Cooper Island. The vessel was intercepted and subsequently searched,” the RVIPF stated.
“Uncovered was a small quantity of what is believed to be cocaine in the bow of the boat. A subsequent search of the vessel uncovered an even larger quantity estimated at over 400 kilograms,” the police added.
The identities of the two males have not yet been released, however, they remain in the custody of the RVIPF.

A vessel bearing two men has reportedly been seized and the men arrested
following the discovery of what appeared to be a large quantity of drugs on
board.
The reports suggest that the incident occurred in the late afternoon of
Saturday, August 13 off Cooper Island.
According to the information provided by sources, the vessel was traveling
in the aforementioned area before it was apprehended by members of the Royal
Virgin Islands Police Force’s Marine Unit.
The stop and search by the officers resulted in the discovery of what
appeared to be large wrapped bails, assumed to be drugs.
Since the reports of the incident, 284News reached out to the RVIPF for
confirmation. However, up until the publication of this article, no
confirmation of the incident was received.
