RIKKOI NOW THE FASTEST MAN IN THE BVI AFTER SETTING NEW NATIONAL 100M RECORD – BREAKS 20Y/O RECORD

Local sprinter Rikkoi Brathwaite now boasts the title of being the fastest man in the territory after dismantling the 20-year-old national Men’s 100-Meter record in the NACAC Open Championships in Freeport, Bahamas.

On Saturday, August 20, Brathwaite who is commonly recognised for his consistent dominant performances in 60-meter indoor events, ran his fastest ever Men’s 100-Meter race at the championships.

Earlier in the day, Brathwaite qualified for the finals of the event after running the fourth fastest time in the prelims, and the second fastest in his heat, with 10.35 seconds.

In the final which was completed just hours later, Brathwaite despite placing fifth in the race ran a quick time of 10.20 seconds, breaking the 10.25 national record which was held by Dion Crabbe for the last two decades.

That race was won by Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake in 9.98 seconds, while second and third went to Americans Kyree King and Brandon Carnes respectively.
