ROTARACT CLUB OF TORTOLA DONATES TO FAMILY SUPPORT NETWORK

The BVI’s Rotaract Club of Tortola teamed up with the Rotaract Club of Central Madras based in India to facilitate a food drive for unprivileged families, after which a hefty donation of a food items were handed over to the BVI Family Support Network (FSN).

The service initiative, called “Buy One More” is a project headed by the Rotaract Club of Central Madras and involves several Rotaract Clubs around the world. Each club hosts a food drive in their community and encourages persons to purchase one additional grocery item for donation.

Following a successful food drive held outside of RiteWay Supermarket in Pasea, the Club handed over the donated items to the Family Support Network. Ms. Sandra Mills received the items on behalf of FSN and thanked the club sincerely.

“On behalf of the board, and myself, we really appreciate it. Right now, we are down on groceries all the time, so we really appreciate it. Every bit counts.” Ms. Mills said.

International Service Director, Elvon Pope, who organized the food drive and handover, says that the project highlighted the importance of international service.

“When I saw a club from India reached out, I was really excited. I’m glad we were able to benefit their project on a whole even though they are thousands of miles away.

Collaborations such as this really showcase the importance of international service and why they are a priority for Rotaract.”
