ACTING PREMIER PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE LATE CYRIL LEWIS WALTERS, MBE

Former Legislator, Honourable Cyril Lewis Walters, MBE, has transitioned.

His passing was made public knowledge in a statement by Acting Premier, Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye Rymer on Tuesday, which stated that Walters had passed earlier that same morning.

Rymer said that as he lived, Walters was well known, highly respected and much loved for his contributions to the BVI – for which Virgin Islanders are forever grateful.

These contributions included 34 years of service as an educator, and serving in local government.

In 1975, Walters became an administrative officer in the Chief Minister’s Office and later rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary.

He went on to win two consecutive General Elections as Representative of the Eighth District for the Virgin Islands Party, in the then British Virgin Islands Legislative Council.

During his Political Career, he served as Minister for Health, Education and Welfare.

In 1986 he was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contributions to the Civil Service.

Walters was also a committed member of the East End Methodist Church and the Lions Club.

Rymer said that he has already contacted the family of the former legislator to express his deepest condolences on behalf of the Premier, the Government of the Virgin Islands, himself and his family, and the people of the Virgin Islands.

He also noted that the legacy of Honourable Cyril Lewis Walters, MBE, “is being carried on by his children who are accomplished in their fields” and “continue to serve the Virgin Islands with patriotic dedication”.
