PRE CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITY MEETING TO BE HELD ON JOST VAN DYKE – RDA

The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) is inviting residents of Jost Van Dyke and interested members of the wider community to attend a discussion on the impending construction of the Jost Van Dyke Primary School this Thursday – September 15th.

The “Pre – Construction Community Meeting” will commence at 10:30 am and will conclude at 11:45 am.

It will be held at Foxy’s, Great Harbour, JVD, and will be carried live on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page for all who cannot attend physically but would still like to participate.

Key areas of discussion which the RDA hopes to address during the meeting are the scope of works, the timeline for the project and anticipated impacts to the community.

Discussions will be led by a panel consisting of the RDA’s Project team, representatives of the awarded contractor – Quality Construction Limited, Representative for the Second District Honourable Melvin Turnbull and Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Sharie De Castro.

The RDA is encouraging members of the community to use this opportunity to share their feedback and concerns regarding the project.

Jost Van Dyke’s previous primary school had sustained severe damage during the 2017 Hurricane Season, and developed additional issues in the following years, often resulting in disruptions to instruction on the campus.

After several delays, the Government of the Virgin Islands inked a contract with Quality Construction Limited – who had emerged successful from the tender process – for the construction of a new Primary School, valued at over $4.3 million.

It is hoped that the project will be completed in time to welcome students to the new campus at the beginning of the September 2023 school year.
