In a recent tribute Hon. Marlon A Penn shared his tribute to the late Hon. Cyril Lewis Walters.
Malone said, “As your Minister for Health and Social Development, Representative for the Eighth District, it is with a deep sense of sadness that I wish to offer condolences to the Territory and the Walters family on the passing of one our extraordinary statesmen Honourable Cyril Lewis Walters, MBE affectionately known as “Hon. Louis Walters.” globally. The territory morn your loss especially the people of the Eighth District of whom you successfully represented in the Virgin Islands Legislative Council.”
Impactful mark and strong voice
Malone added, “The voice of Honourable Cyril Lewis Walters was a stabilizing force in the affairs and the promotion of the ideals of this land. His enduring service to the territory was evident while he served as a faithful member of the East End Methodist Church, a committed supporter of the Lions Club, an administrative officer in the Chief Minister’s Office and later in the position as Permanent Secretary. Honourable Cyril Lewis Walters, championed the cause of Education as an educator for thirty-four (34) years. He was popular and well loved by his people. He won two General Elections consecutively from 1986 and in 1990. He also served as a Minister of Health, Education and Welfare. In 1986 he was awarded Member of the Order of the British empire (MBE) for his exceptional contribution to the Public Service.”
In closing he said, “Again, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the people of the Virgin Islands, I convey our deepest and sincerest condolences to his daughters Bernadine and Cyrlin and his son Mac and their respective families all of whom I have established deep friendship. I ask that God continue to grant them comfort and strength during this difficult time.”
