GOVERNOR TO NOTE MISSED DEADLINES IN FIRST REPORT TO THE UK ON IMPLEMENTATION OF COI RECOMMENDATIONS

The issue of missed deadlines will be noted in the governor’s first report to the United Kingdom on the territory’s progress with implementing the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report.

The reveal was made by Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley while addressing questions from the press on the territory’s progress with meeting deadlines for COI recommendations.

“We have a few deadlines that we’ve missed but we are making good progress and of course, we know that the governor soon will be giving his first report to the United Kingdom and we expect for him to be positive about the progress we’ve made but of course noting some of these areas where we still need to make progress”, Premier Wheatley stated.

Admitting that the implementation process is no walk in the park, Dr. Wheatley said that he is confident that the governor will recognize the efforts put in so far.

“It’s a lot of hard work of course. I think the governor will recognize that. I recognize that as well. It’s a lot of hard work but still a lot more work that needs to be done. Not just in terms of COI reforms I should say”, he added.

In addition to COI reforms, Premier Wheatley believes that a wider process of reform needs to be undertaken in the territory to improve the efficiency of public services and make better use of tax dollars.

“It’s important to say that overall, we need to go through a process of reform to make sure we’re able to deliver public services in a more efficient and more effective manner than we have done in the past. So we’re looking to reform all of our institutions to make them more efficient, more effective, more community based and community driven and of course, give better value for money to the taxpayer”, the premier said.
