HON NEVILLE SMITH TO TEMPORARILY SET UP OFFICE IN DISTRICT 1 – MALONE TO ASSIST

At Large Representative Honourable Neville Smith has been tasked to temporarily represent the people of the First District who, following the arrest of former Premier Andrew Fahie, were left without proper representation in the government.

The reveal was made by At Large Representative Honourable Carvin Malone who explained that he will continue to assist Smith along the way.

“In a meeting recently concluded, it was announced that Honourable Neville Smith will set up office where he would be there for two days of the week and I would continue to actually move in and out of the district in terms of concerns as I have been for the past time”, Malone said.

Malone went on to explain that part of the reason that he was not selected to fill this post was his recent move to the Opposition, which would prevent him from providing the necessary representation at the level of the Cabinet.

“You must understand that we have four At Large Representatives and each of the four could be called on, but Honourable Smith has been given the particular task… I have moved over to the Opposition so in order that they will have a voice in Cabinet. They have said to Honourable Smith – well we would like you to set up office”, he explained.

Former Premier Fahie has until the end of the ongoing 7th sitting of the House of Assembly to participate in a debate or he will be stripped of his seat.

Fahie along with co-defendants Oleanvine Maynard and son Kadeem Maynard are jointly charged with conspiracy to import a controlled substance, conspiracy to engage in money laundering, and attempted money laundering.

His trial date is set for January 17, 2023.

If convicted, Fahie could face a maximum of life in prison on the charge of conspiracy to import a controlled substance and two maximum sentences of 20 years each if convicted for conspiracy to engage in money laundering, and attempted money laundering.
