MOU WITH CARICOM AND PRECLEARANCE TALKS TO STREAMLINE TRAVELLERS EXPERIENCE

The immigration process at the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport will soon be streamlined to make the travelling experience seamless for all inbound and outbound travellers.

Premier and Minister for Tourism Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley made the announcement during a recent press conference, where he revealed that his government will soon be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with CARICOM.

He said the signing will be on the Air Passenger Information System which will complement Immigration’s Border Management System.

“In the coming days I’ll be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Caribbean Community on an Air Passenger Information System and this will help us tremendously because even before someone gets on a plane, we will receive the information here in the Virgin Islands which will allow us to be able to scrutinize other persons on the list, do our due diligence so that when they get here it’s not a very long process for them to be processed,” Dr. Wheatley stated.

Premier Wheatley also said there have been discussions surrounding the subject of preclearance for passengers utilizing the recently announced direct flights from the territory to Miami come next year June 2023.
