The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) now has a Multi-Purpose Court that will assist with the college’s goal of diversifying the number of extracurricular activities that can be hosted at its Paraquita Bay facility.
An official ceremony was held at the main campus recently to launch the opening of the multi-purpose court which will also see a return of a basketball team at the college.
President of HLSCC Dr. Richard Georges said the initiative is in line with their mandate of enhancing the students’ experience while at the college through providing outlets for extracurricular activities.
A brief history was provided on the behind the scene works that went into the project by Director of Student Life Ms. Deborah Hodge
She said the project is one that has been a long time coming and was made possible through a generous $30,000 donation by non-profit foundation Unite BVI.
Prior to securing the materials for the multi-purpose court, Director Hodge said an attempt was made to have the court done through local means.
However, the prices that were quoted in some cases were more than doubled the initial price that was given by the United States based manufacturer which provided the materials for the court.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education and Sports Hon. Sharie De Castro said the completion of the court is just one of the many major plans in store for the campus.
