ELIHU RYMER, BEM 80 HAS PASSED

Virgin Islander, former public officer, businessman and social commentator Mr. Elihu Rhymer, BEM has passed away at the age of 80 at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital. Rymer passed away on February 4th, 2023.

Throughout his long and dedicated career in the Virgin Islands, Elihu Rymer was a beloved teacher who later rose to various ranks within the public service including permanent secretary as well as serving on various boards across the territory. He was also known as one of the VI’s most outspoken social commentators, bringing light to issues affecting Virgin Islanders.

Mr. Rhymer who was originally from North Sound, Virgin Gorda has a number of notable business ventures included the Josiah’s Bay Cottages, BVI Development Consultants and Best Vacations Imaginable.

Most notable, on October 31st, 2019, Mr. Rhymer was officially pinned with the British Empire Medal during an investiture ceremony at his home, having been previously named in Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Since his passing tributes from all across the Virgin Islands have continued to pour in, giving recognition to his years of service to the Virgin Islands.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Patricia Todman-Rhymer, daughter Kimberly Rhymer-Hanley and son Bryan Rhymer, along with a brother Daniel Harrigan.
