ROTARY CLUB SUNRISE OF ROAD TOWN SPENDS WEEK GIVING BACK TO VI COMMUNITY

The Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town was busy this week giving back to the community. They donated much needed branded blankets to the residents of the Adina Donovan home and made a courtesy visit to assess any further support the management of the facility needed to provide the best care to seniors of the Virgin Islands.

Rotary Club Sunrise was also instrumental in donating a top of the line smart board to the rehabilitation center of His Majesty Prison at Balsam Ghut.  The smart board with its many features will be able to provide additional resources for teaching and training of the inmates as they prepare to return to their communities.

His Majesty Prison currently has a partnership programme with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College offering inmates small business management and life skills course. The hope is that the facility would be able to attract trainers regionally and international using the virtual features to expand the learning possibilities for the inmates.

The official handover was made to the Superintendent of the Prison, Mr. Guy Hill and the Restorative Justice Officer Walter Barrett and the Rehabilitation Coordinator, Germaine Freeman.  In attendance from Rotary Club Sunrise were members who had a vested interest in the contribution. They are President Alicia Green, Vice President Rosemarie Flax, Past President Mrs. Jean Vanterpool, Immediate Past President Gretchen Hodge-Penn and Director of Administration Judy Smith.

This initiative under the leadership of current President Alicia Green is indeed to be a valuable contribution meeting various needs of the community. President Green said, “It is indeed an honor to contribute and invest in the reform programme for our men. We are looking forward to receiving a report on the impact of this contribution by the programme director.  While Rotary builds communities, a vital part of the community is its people and this is a great start to reforming our men to return to continue to build stronger the communities we serve”.
