Centenarian Mrs. Othelia Stevens of the Valley Virgin Gorda who recently celebrated her 101 birthday has passed away. Stevens passed away last evening Tuesday February 7th, 2023.
Stevens who was originally from East End Tortola, migrated to Virgin Gorda once married.
In an invited comment by our agency, 9th District Representative Hon. Vincent O Wheatley reflected on the life, legacy and contributions of Stevens. Wheatley said, “I was really saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend Ms. Othelia Stevens as we called her. I have known her since my childhood as I lived not too far from her, and they had the only TV, in the area. I have always known her to be a quiet, hardworking, extremely generous person. She looked after many, many persons in the community, who might not have been her family, from providing meals to providing shelter, she did it all without a fuss. At 101 she was the last of a special set of women from East End who married Virgin Gorda men. I can remember Ms. Ilva who married Mr. Edgar, Ms. Ina who married Mr. Gerald and her sister Violet who married Alexander just to name a few. She lived a long, full, productive life, she loved and cared for her family and they in return loved and cared for her. She leaves behind a power legacy of family togetherness and love. Sincere condolences to her immediate and extended family, may her soul rest in peace.”
