During a recent radio interview, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley was faced with the question of what he believes will happen should the people of the Virgin Islands elect a government, or a slate of District Representatives, which the United Kingdom is not fond of, and whether or not this will trigger a decision from the mainland to move forward with the Order in Council.
These questions arise amid active discussions across the Territory surrounding concerns that some local politicians do not inspire the confidence of the United Kingdoms as it relates to preferred leadership models and behaviours, and whether or not persons facing investigation in relation to the Commission of Inquiry are or should be eligible for candidacy in the upcoming General Election.
Here’s what the Premier had to say.
In a moment of self-reflection, Wheatley considered his own political journey over the past three years, and how he has had to noticeably adjust to better align to the needs of his role and his team.
He says that above all, he has understood to take the good, leave the bad and learn from mistakes. He added that it is now up to the people of the Virgin Islands to decide whether they see the improvement.
