On Monday February 13th 284 Media joined the community in witnessing the official opening of the Road Town Market Square, as it emerged ready to host various practitioners of agriculture and trade for the first time in years.
The well attended activity included events to keep attendees engaged and entertained for most of the day, as they took their first look at the new and improved facility.
This included an opening ceremony, blessing and ribbon cutting, as well as a walk through, and entertainment which included a cultural rendition from the Ebenezar Thomas Primary School Heritage Dancers.
During the ceremony, all eyes were on Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye Rymer who led the charge on the development of the space.
Rymer noted that, now two years beyond the groundbreaking ceremony, the remodeling of the Market Square has been transformative.
Premier Dr the Hon. Natalio Wheatley, who holds responsibility for Agriculture and Fisheries, shared similar sentiments.
As he reflected on his days of visiting the previous facility, Wheatley cheered the new Market Square as an opportunity to provide great opportunities to a new generation of farmers.
Meanwhile, noting the importance of such a facility for the businesses who will inhabit the Market Square was Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Hon. Shereen Flax Charles.
Chief Planner for Town and Country Planning Gregory Adams charged Virgin Islanders to do their part to ensure that the facility is treated well, so that it can last for generations to come.
