The National Unity Government has come under fire following indications from Governor John Rankin that Members of the House of Assembly were given a choice of dissolving the House of Assembly and proceeding with an early election following the arrest of Former Premier Andrew Fahie and subsequent release of the COI, but chose not to do so.
Rankin spoke while fielding questions from the press earlier this week.
The news sent shockwaves through the community, particularly in circles that have questioned the formation of the National Unity Government as it relates to the democratic process.
Former Financial Secretary, 8th District Candidate Allen Wheatley shared his views on the matter during a recent appearance on Tola Radio.
He believes that while members of the public continue to react to the Governor’s recollection of the events, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheately ought to be given a chance to share the Government’s perspective.
Wheatley said that no matter the circumstances which led to this point, the fact remains that this is where the Territory is, and focus needs to remain on moving forward.
