Between February 27th and February 28th the Government of the Virgin Islands intends to host 3 handing over and dedication ceremonies for community centres which have emerged from rehabilitation works.
The first ceremony was held at the Valarie O Thomas Community Centre in Sea Cows Bay, on Monday morning.
The Cathryn and Gertude Warner Community Centre in Purcell and the Emile Dunlap Community Centre in Anegada were announced for subsequent ceremonies, on Monday afternoon and Tuesday.
There, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley spoke on these developments as new milestones in the Virgin Islands’ Journey of Recovery.
Representative for District 3, Hon. Julian Fraser shared in expressing gratitude to the partners who contributed to undertaking these necessary works at the Valarie O Thomas Community Centre. He stressed the importance of having such facilities available to community members.
Minister for Health and Social Development Marlon Penn, who also holds responsibility for Community Centres and Shelters, shared similar sentiments on the importance of such facilities.
Representative for PAHO Dr Amalie Del Riego, said that while PAHO does not usually invest in infrastructural works, the agency was proud to have contributed to the undertaking of this vital project for the people of the Virgin Islands.
Remarks were also given by European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Malgorzata Wasilewska, who joined in virtually. She reflected on the project as being in line with the EU’s commitments to climate protection.
