Residents across the territory can expect the announcement of the date for the 2023 general election within the coming days.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley gave that indication during a recent interview on local show Talking Points.
He said he initially had plans on announcing the date during the final sitting of the House of Assembly on Friday.
Premier Wheatley also made it known of his stance towards fixed election dates in the territory, stating that it is something that he firmly supports.
The House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands was dissolved by Governor His Excellency John Rankin, following consultation with Premier Wheatley on Friday.
While the territory awaits an announcement on the election date, the Constitution states that an election is to be held in the territory between 21 and 60 days following the dissolving of the House of Assembly.
This means that election is to be held in the BVI between the dates of March 31, 2023, and May 10, 2023.
