Over the weekend, the Virgin Islands Party officially launched its campaign for the 2023 General Election, under the theme “We Moving Forward Together”.
Signalling a real kick into the swing of things for the election season, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley has become the talk of the town for his lively engagement with supporters at political rallies.
This included an energetic delivery of one of the VIP’s well known promotional tracks.
Setting the scene for the evening and calling on Virgin Islanders to “Let the transformation continue” was Honourable Vincent Wheatley.
He took the stage before colleagues and supporters who gathered in his district, on the island of Virgin Gorda for the event.
Candidate for District 1 Karl Dawson stressed to those in attendance and all who listened in to the event that it is important that the Virgin Islands “elect a team” to address pertinent issues that continue to face the territory.
This, as the VIP remains the only political party to present a full 13 candidates in the General Election.
Meanwhile, At-Large Candidate Zoe Walcott cheered the party’s leader, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley, as the person she believes should emerge successful at the polls.
An election she believes is about protecting who Virgin Islanders are as a people, affirming their values and reinstating the confidence of Virgin Islanders in each other.
The event was not without anticipated political antics, most notably from At Large Representative Hon. Carvin Malone, who poked fun at political opponents.
Despite the Party’s launch coinciding with St Patrick’s Day and continued talk of this year’s candidates being “The Lucky 13”, Hon Sharie De Castro said that in this election there is no dependence on luck by the VIP.
The Virgin Islands Party has since proceeded with individual candidate launches in each respective district.
Our news team will continue to bring you converge on these events as the Election proceeds.
