ALTHEA SCATLIFFE SCHOOL TO BE DEMOLISHED THIS WEEKEND

Demolition works at the Althea Scatliffe Primary school are slated to commence this weekend.

That is according to Education Minister Hon. Sharie De Castro who shared this update during a recent addition of the Virgin Islands Party’s “Lets Talk” Radio Show.

The decision to demolish the school was confirmed in late 2022 following an inspection of the school’s building revealed concerns about its structural integrity.

Access to the school’s building has been restricted since Friday, June 17, after the Ministry of Education received documents from a previously conducted inspection that highlighted several concerns pertaining to the structure of the school’s buildings.

At the time the ministry said, “The report recommended that the use of the school building be suspended immediately. A primary concern in the report is the structural integrity of the building. Based on this information, the ministry agrees that the best option is to err on the side of caution by prioritising the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.”
