SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL CURRICULUM ON THE RISE IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Physical Education teachers at the Elmore Stoutt High School recently completed training sessions on the basics of the territory’s national sport, softball, which included practical and theory sessions.

The sessions were an initiative from the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, and were completed on Monday, March 27 by President of Baseball Affairs Josh Ridgway, Player Rep Jamal “Lefty” Allen, Demoi Hodge and Giansy Rabsatt.

Speaking on the initiative President Ridgeway said it was “a total success, full of positive energy from all.”

“The concept is that the kids get introduced to the game by the teachers in class, then if they like that, they can join the after-school programs organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Diamonds Sporting Academy or Deh Future Clubbers Baseball/Softball Club,” he added.

To further educate and encourage children across the territory of the sport, the Virgin Islands Softball-Baseball Association will be hosting summer camps and a Youth Baseball League for ages 4-18 year-old boys and girls this summer.

Parents interested in having their child or children participate can sign up at the opening of the 2023 National Fastpitch League at the E. Walwyn Brewley Ballpark on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Likewise, they can contact Deh Future Clubbers Baseball/Softball Camp (Jamal Allen 441-7183), Diamonds Sporting Academy (Darier Malone 499-9975) or visit www.ballcharts.com/VGSBA.
