Chairman of the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement Ronnie Skelton has promised that if his party is successful at the polls on April 24, his government will assist local farmers by providing them with free water for their crops and animals.
Skelton made the promise during his party’s election campaign in the Third District on Friday, stating that the BVI has to develop some level of food security to enable the territory to be self-sufficient.
He said the agriculture industry in most countries across the world is subsidised by their respective governments, and the BVI should not be any different.
Skelton said an initiative as such would help to assist farmers who are often faced with many other challenges of their own.
The PVIM Chairman also highlighted some of the positive impacts that this initiative will have on the health of residents in the territory once the agriculture industry starts to blossom.
