Ninth District candidate under the National Democratic Party (NDP) Coy Levons has said that it is time that the residents of Anegada be treated with fairness, adding that the times of accepting mediocrity are over.
The comments came during his speech on the sister island on Sunday at an NDP campaign rally.
Levons said the creation of a district council on Anegada will seek to address a number of the existing anomalies on the sister island, such as the issues of poor garbage disposal, lack of a reliable emergency medical evacuation and land distribution issues.
The Ninth District candidate also spoke to the master plan that will be formulated through the district council, stating that it will cover the land distribution issue to have that resolved once and for all.
Levons also expressed the need for Anegada to have critical infrastructure in place, such as public restrooms and other basic services that are often taken for granted.
He also addressed the issue of boats destined for the sister island having to be cleared firstly on Tortola as opposed to directly on Anegada.
He said in 2023, this should not be the case and called on the necessary measures to be taken to address this issue at once.
