BVI TEAM OFF TO 50TH CARIFTA GAMES IN BAHAMAS

Athletes and officials from the British Virgin Islands have commenced their journey to the 50th CARIFTA Games in Bahamas which is scheduled to run over the Easter holiday, from April 7 to 10.

Some of the delegation departed the territory on Tuesday via the Terrence B Lettsome International Airport, while others will depart the territory on Wednesday and Thursday.

President of the BVI Athletics Association Steve Augustine during a recent media conference said he is confident in the team having a successful CARIFTA Games.

While not providing a goal for total team medals this year, Augustine said he is hopeful that many of the athletes will return home with some form of silverware in their respective events.

Meanwhile, General Secretary for the BVI Athletic Association Stephanie Russ-Penn says the intentions behind the composition of the team is to run relays, including the inaugural mixed relay at this year’s CARIFTA Games.

Athletes in the Under 17 Girls include: Taryn Augustine, Shyra Stoutt, Shania Johnson, Jah’kyla Morton, Asia McMaster, Kenniqua Grate and Cristal Daly.

In the Under 20 Girls: Savianna Joseph, Adaejah Hodge, Palesa Caesar, Kaelyaah Liburd, Kenyatta Grate, Amia Todman, A’Keela McMaster and Ashleigh Penn.

In the Under 17 Males: J’Den Jackson, Othneil Gillings, Mario Carter and Tiondre Frett.

The Under 20 Males include: Gabriel Cline, Jonathan Lynch, Orlando Douglas, Mychael Claxton, Andre Smikle, Jahshani Farrington, M’Khori Crabbe, Khamauri Crabbe, Mikei George, Tyreese James and Jaylen Callwood.

The officials include: Team Manager AnnaBelle Skelton-Malone; Coaches: Karene Hodge (Head Coach), Carl Barrett, Raphael Jack and Paul Hewlett; Therapists Chester Levi James and Shaun Williams; and Media personnel Cleave Farrington and Angelle Cameron.
