The Committee to Elect Troy Christopher launched, their candidate, Troy E Christopher on Saturday 1st April. Residents of the second district came out, eager to hear his vision and ideas for the district. His message was one of prosperity and new creative ideas to engage all demographics within the community. The night began with prayer and song by Psalmist Donna Cline, followed by prerecorded tributes and an endorsement by former legislature, J Alvin Christopher his uncle.
Christopher, who held the district 2 seat from 1995- 2015 before retiring, gracefully took the podium and endorsed Troy as the best candidate of the three candidates contesting the second district seat. He said Troy has the ability, patience, and the know-how to get the job done. He stated that the job was not for the faint hearted, but for humble, focused persons who are dedicated to the development of their country. Mr. Christopher also warned residents of the dark days he sees ahead if we don’t make the right decisions in light of the order in council and to be prepared and expect anything.
Troy’s daughters, Queen Nandy and Queen Makeda, as he affectionately calls them, introduced their father and expressed that he is a great mentor, and he cares. He is very hardworking and made sure to share his knowledge with them so that they can develop skills, like photography, among others, to sustain themselves. He is very approachable and shows compassion to everyone whether by assisting someone in the community or by giving his last to ensure that that person can make ends meet. They also highlighted that not only has he assisted persons within the community, but he has made his voice heard over the years regarding his grievances within the second district and has always had great interest in making a difference.
Before Troy Christopher took the stage, he aired a pre-recorded video. In the video he can be seen walking through the district highlighting areas of concern.
He spoke about creating an economic triangle that includes the main tourist hubs in the district: Cane Garden Bay, Brewers Bay and Jost Van Dyke; giving the spin-off for effective growth for jobs, increase in room occupancy for hoteliers and car rentals. He also shared his vision as it relates to food security and renewable energy, many of which can be incorporated in the enhancement of the presently non-functioning community centers making them central to the improved quality of lives of the residents.
Troy Christopher’s campaign launch was one of the three district representative’s launches that took place consecutively over the last several days.
